OPPORTUNITY

• Specification Writer responsibilities would include coordinating and producing project manuals for educational facilities of various types. The role will include researching products and materials, performing code reviews, assisting project designers with material selection and system research while being a risk management resource to project teams. A dedication to continual development and improvement of the company specifications templates for different project types. The technical education of the design staff is critical, and the role will require close coordination with the Production Manager on QA/QC practices and project scheduling.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Writing project specifications from company master specifications and compiling project manuals
• Working with the design team to select appropriate materials and systems for various educational project types.
• A comprehensive understanding of building codes, building technology and structures; and have outstanding communication and customer service skills. Demonstrated problem solving skills and the ability to effectively educate design staff
• Assisting design team with technical guidance during construction contract development and administration.
• Mentoring of design studio technical staff by organizing and implementing regular meetings with staff to share experiences and firm standards to promote best practices, and teach lessons learned through firm experience. Work closely with aspiring architects and designers to offer design and technical expertise to promote personal development and growth.
• Qualified candidates should be able to work independently, be meticulous and detail oriented, possess exceptional judgment, and be experienced in the ability to communicate the qualitative requirements for materials, products, systems, and workmanship clearly and concisely.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 10+ years of experience in the design & construction industry with 5+ years of experience as a Specifications Writer
• CSI CCS, or CSI CCCA Preferred
• Initiative-taking approach to collaboration and communication with our company team members and consultants.
• Prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects including their deadlines.
• Read and understand drawings, specifications, and critical path scheduling.
• Work with industry standard software including Bluebeam, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Microsoft Office.
• Technical knowledge of architectural systems.
• Strong understanding of accessibility codes, life-safety codes, education codes, industry standards, building construction materials/systems and means and methods.
• General understanding of civil, structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical and low voltage systems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Architecture.
• Registered architect.

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

• Basic working knowledge with the following software
  • Microsoft: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook
  • Adobe: Acrobat and Photoshop
  • Bluebeam
  • Knowledge of Autocad or Revit Desired but not required.
• Learn and Utilize Dropbox, FileMaker Database Entry, Zoom
